The best caramel sauce ever. Sweet, salty, and made with date sugar!
Ingredients
-
½ cup PurDate sugar
-
6 Tbsp salted butter, room temperature
-
1 cup or more heavy cream
-
½ tsp salt (optional- add if you wanted a salted caramel sauce)
-
1 tsp pure vanilla extract (optional)
Directions
Heat PurDate sugar and butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly for 30 seconds.
When the butter has completely melted and the mixture begins to clump, add the cream and simmer for 30 more seconds.
Remove from heat and stir in salt. The sauce will thicken as it cools.
Pour over ice cream, cinnamon rolls, granola, or cheesecake. The sky is the limit here! I like to make up a batch and keep it ready to use in the fridge.
Recipe Note
Sauce keeps well in the refrigerator up to three weeks. It is freezable as well. Thaw or warm before using for a few seconds in the microwave or in a saucepan.
Vegan Option - use coconut milk instead of the heavy cream and leave out the butter.

We call this our Incredible Caramel Sauce because there are simply no other words to describe it. Date sugar is a perfect sugar substitute for this sauce because it naturally carries a soft caramel flavor. The sauce is versatile and can be used as a delicious topping on many desserts. |
