Our PurDate Date Sugar is simply 100% organic granulated, dehydrated, Tunisian dates with the pits removed and ground into sugar. It’s a nutritious sweetener and works as a great substitute for sugar. There is no other all-natural, minimally-processed sugar like it on the market.
Only Tunisian dates with the pits removed and nothing else.
No, that’s one of the great things about date sugar. Date sugar has a low glycemic index (between 40-50), making it an ideal option for diabetic patients. The fiber slows the rate at which the sugar enters into the bloodstream. Because sugar from fruits digest slowly, it allows you more time to burn the calories from consumption and distribute them evenly throughout the day. This gives you the slow release of energy you need to keep going for a longer period of time, and eliminates that unwanted sugar crash.
When compared to other sweeteners, date sugar outshines them all. It is the most minimally processed sugar next to honey—so date sugar contains almost all the nutritional value as the original superfruit. It is an excellent source of fiber, promoting healthy digestion and reducing cholesterol levels, and thus decreasing the risk of heart disease. Date sugar also has magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, and is rich in other B vitamins such as Folate and Niacin. Pharmacist Divya Jacob suggests eating a handful of dates every day in order to get all the essential nutrients. It has 45x more antioxidants when compared to its partners, making it comparable to berries. It has a low glycemic index, making it an ideal option for diabetic patients. Date sugar has a third less calories than white sugar, but the calories it does have are solely from the fruit. Check out our blog for more info on comparing sweeteners. You will be surprised at what you find!
When subbing date sugar for white sugar or any other kind of sugar in a recipe, you can sub 1:1. However, you may want to decrease the dry ingredients or add liquid depending on the recipe. You should account for the fact that the date sugar absorbs some liquid when subbing in recipes. The recipe with date sugar is not as sweet as white sugar, but that only helps you on your way to a healthy lifestyle and your journey to crave a healthier amount of sweetness.
You can use date sugar in hot cocoa and smoothies but it is not advised to use it in tea or coffee. Because of the high amount of fiber, which you ultimately want, there will always be some residue at the bottom of your hot drink.
However, our PurDate date powder which will be released in the fall of 2022 will dissolve mostly in all hot drinks like tea and coffee. Keep an eye out for it!

PurDate is based in Tunisia so that we can focus on being a blessing in the community in which the dates are harvested and the sugar is made. Instead of taking the work and jobs away from an economically neglected place, we want to make a real and tangible difference in people’s lives. Some of the ways that we do this:
· We provide year-long meaningful employment with benefits where this is not the norm
· We pay above the average wage in an area where unemployment is high and low paid seasonal employment is the norm. Most of our employees are women trying to earn a living for their families. We want to empower them to make a brighter future possible for them and their children.
· We run English camps for the youth in our community
