Everyday, more health-conscious people switch from cooking with traditional sugars to using date sugar in their recipes. The main reason for this trend is that date sugar is nutritious, while traditional sugars, such as white sugar, contain no nutritional value. On the other hand, date sugar is filled with nutrients including potassium, magnesium, iron, and more.
Though date sugar is a healthy sugar substitute, it doesn't always behave the same as sugar in recipes. For those using date sugar for the first time, check out our baking with date sugar guide.
To help you get started cooking with date sugar, we have created a list of 5 recipes that go well with date sugar:
Looking to sweeten your healthy smoothie without compromising its nutrition? We recommend 2 tbsp. of date sugar. However, you can experiment with more or less depending on your desired sweetness. Date sugar works great in a variety of smoothies. Even green smoothies can become sweet with the addition of some date sugar. I personally like to add date sugar to offset the bitter taste of the kale and spinach I tend to add to my smoothies.
Recipe number 5 is orange chicken with a date sugar-based sauce. Using date sugar as the main ingredient in this recipe gives the chicken a caramel taste. This is one of my go to dinner recipes when I need to feed a crowd. The sauce is a wonderful blend of both sweet and savory. It can also be adapted for flavoring other meat-based meals.
The above recipes are great examples of how date sugar can be used. However, since date sugar is high in fiber it doesn't work well in certain beverages such as tea because the fiber can collect at the bottom. For use in beverages, we have developed Date Powder, the healthiest powdered sugar alternative on the market. Also, date sugar tends to have a caramel taste. When this taste is not desired, it is best to not use date sugar. For more info on how to use date sugar, check out our comprehensive guide.
